What is the Camelio Android Family Tablet

This tablet is a full Android capable kids tablet meaning Google Play will be available. It has very limited parental controls but you could use the Kids Place App in conjunction with this tablet to get more parental controls.

It has a number of various personality packs like Hello Kitty, Hot Wheels, WWE, and Thomas the Train. These come with a skin case, apps and wallpaper for the background.

It can be used by up  to 5 profiles to give each person in the family their own settings and homepage that displays different apps that you use regularly.

It is available at Walmart and was released earlier this year by Vivitar.

Camelio Android Family Tablet Specs

This tablet has a 7″ screen with 1024 x 600 resolution. The only issue I had with it was not definition but it wasn’t very bright and the colors weren’t very vibrant.

You have 4 GB of memory and about 2 GB available. you can also upgrade the memory by 32 GB with a micro SD card.

The processor is a 1.1 GHz and it has 1 GB of RAM. It is not very fast considering the specs and took a while to load and start up.

You will also have to cameras the front being a .3 MP and the rear being 2 MP.

The battery life was very short for this Lithium Ion Battery. By the time I upgraded all the Google Play apps I was down from 60% to 30%, about 30 minutes of downloading with WiFi.

WiFi is the only available wireless connection available on this tablet and it is a single antennae single band, Fair.

The remaining ports include a microphone, micro USB, and headphone port.

The Bad

  • Slow Processor

The Breakdown

Your going to get what you pay for with this tablet. It is $100 and I think I would get the ClickN Kids Tablet before I purchased this. It also has Google play but a much faster processor, better speakers, better parental controls, and the Looney Tunes Phonics program. Both screens aren’t very good but if this is your budget then get the most for your money.

If your budget is a little higher($150) then go with the Kurio 7s. You won’t have Google Play but you get the Amazon AppStore and everything about it is better. On top of that you get over 60 included apps, 30 educational, and won’t need to buy anything out of the box.

  1. Hi. Thank you for the review. I found this quite helpful. I have a question and wonder if you might now the answer. I would need to purchase a protective case but didn’t like the choices available with characters. I’m sure there are other universal cases that would work for this tablet – I’m hoping. Any ideas or suggestions. Thanks

  2. Hi Ryan
I just purchased the Vivitar Camelio tablet at a local store for $80. Not knowing anything about it. (I don’t own a tablet or ipad) This will be for your 3 yr old granddaughter who uses her parents iPad frequently.
The tablet will be used 100% for games and learning, nothing else…. What’s your view on that?
I am hoping Google Play has different learning tools and games for her enjoyment.
Or are they the same as the iPad?

PS ~ I have looked into several tablets Kurio, Mabi2, Nexus 7, Galaxy but the prices are a little steep.
Thanks in advance for your good advise.

    • There are several games educational and otherwise available on Google Play. If this was your budget then it will still work for the purposes mentioned. That’s actually a pretty good price. All the others mentioned I do prefer to this one but they are also more expensive.

  3. Honestly, I can’t make up my mind. I’ve looked at the Nooks, Kindle Fire, Nabi 2 and the Camelio. Obviously, this tablet has an appealing price tag, and my daughter’s into everything Monster High, so the personalized skin etc is a nice touch, but is that all it has to offer?

My daughter’s 6 and I want the tablet to grow with her for a year or two at least. I want a tablet for her that’s preferably ran on Droid, as that’s what my phone is, and she’s really got the ins and outs down on that one.
She uses my phone for google playstore downloaded games such as tic tac toe, math for kids, tendoid lite, toddler lock etc. OBviously, since it’s my phone, I’ve limited downloads, but with her own tablet, she could download so much more. She is autistic and I find technology grounds her and she is really good with it.
She also enjoys listening to music and watching Netflix shows.
And most of all, she steals my phone constantly to take pictures, she’s a future photographer. She enjoys taking pics of herself and everything around her.
Considering all this info, which of the above would you recommend?

    • I really don’t like any of the camera features on any of these. They are just not going to be the same resolution as these $500 smartphones that are out today. If your looking for just a year or two then the Camelio might not be a bad option. It doesn’t come preloaded with much but at least you get the option for Google Play. To get what you want you will need to spend a little more. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 kids is going to be the best that matches your description.

  4. Hi again…I had asked question before and you were very helpful so here I go again! We were leaning towards your top rated Nabi for my girls aged 7 & 9 for Christmas but some friends just got their girls the Camelio. Now I understand that this one doesn’t have the parental controls, but we could add our own and it also doesn’t include a lot of educational content. My husbands says this doesn’t matter so much to him because my kids have us an online program through school which they would be able to access via the internet and that also allows us to monitor them. So that being said, and with the price diff. are there still things about the Nabi that would make it advantageous to us if the parental controls and educational aspects are not that important? Thanks for any advice!

    • My advice would be go to best buy and get last years Kindle Fire HD for $99 or buy it at Amazon for I believe $108. It is twice the tablet as far as specs and performance. I would not save the $8 when you can get so much more for nearly the same amount of money.
