What is the Vtech Innotab 3s Kids Tablet

The Innotab 3s is another kids learning tablet that focuses mainly on educational content for kids. Like the LeapFrog products it has a lot of great publishers making great content for it.  The educational games on the Innotab 3s feature subjects like math, social studies, reading, science and more. There is a kids safe web browser and WiFi that also allows kids to email their parents games they would like or send funny pictures and texts to your iPhone or Android phone. The Kids connect program allows texts, emoticons, photos, and more and will have a 1 year subscription included with your tablet. The Innotab 3s comes in pink or blue and has a 5″ screen and durable shell casing. It is due to be released fall 2013 and sure to be a hit with a price tag 50$ less than the LeapFrog LeapPad Ultra. There are over 350 games, apps and books that can be purchased for the Vtech Innotab 3s.

The Breakdown

The Vtech Innotab 3s is going to be a great educational tablet for your kids to own. There are tons of apps and educational games that will encourage your children to learn by having fun. They have some great publishers backing this product and it is under a $100. They have included a battery pack which was a major complaint in the past. This kids tablet is very durable and will continue working through minor drops and collisions. The swivel camera saves you money because your not paying for 2 cameras when the one camera does everything you need and more. I like the ability to add a 32 GB Micro SD card so I don’t have to go through the hours of deciding what to delete once the storage is full. It doesn’t have as many programs to choose from as the LeapFrog does but has many of the same type of games. If you can afford all of them then that might be an issue but your probably just going to choose your child’s favorite characters like Monsters Inc and Cars etc anyways.

  1. hum, not convinced, my daughter loves this thing, but every time it is turned off and on again, it asks for the date and time to be put in again, also, I can only seem to add myself to the kid connect. all online videos and pictures show the innotab before the update which is different to that after. my daughter doesn’t live with me and her mum wants to be able to contact her via the innotab. any ideas as to what I can do?

    • With the Innotab or LeapPad you actually have very little control over them because they develop the OS. It’s not going to be like an Android tablet and the issue your having sounds like a missing or corrupt file if it is asking you to reset the time every time you log in. As far as the kid connect you should be able to enter more than one phone number that can contact the innotab.

  2. Don’t waste your money on this shoddy product. We had to but two of them and it still did not work. They make it sound like a god send, but it is a money pit with getting the programs. You can buy similar products that offer a wealth of apps already on board, unlike the greedy corporate officers at VTech.

Spare yourself the headaches and buy from another company. In fact, purchase one that looks more like the iPad, they are easier to operate and offer many apps for free, and provide all the safety features VTech claims… which I doubt it works just as the product itself.

They deserve a 5 or 10 star rating as the worst producer of electronics for kids and other electronics they offer.

If you buy it, prepare to be running back to the place of purchase to exchange, exchange, exchange, until your fed up and finally ask for your money back.

    • Wow? I’m sorry for your troubles. Sounds like you had a lot of problems with this product.

  3. Thank you so much for your prompt reply! Looking forward to see the videos.

  4. Hello, I was hoping you could help me decide which tablets are best for my family at this time!. I’m looking for educational tablets and so I have selected to further review the Innotab 3s and LeapPad Ultra for my younger kids (and Kurio 7s for my older ones). I believe the educational content for both (Innotab and LeapPad)devices are at the top of my list, however; I also wanted to be able to download/add content to them (more versatility) Do you know if any of these devices allow downloads from apple/android market and such? or do they only work with their own apps/system per se? I mostly need educational content and fun activities. Thank you so much I truly enjoy reading your reviews they are very informative and have helped me narrowed down my search!

    • You will not be able to add iOS or Android games to the Innotab 3s or LeapPad Ultra. They will only use their own specific apps and games. They will both be great for education though. They are quite a bit more expensive but are very in depth and offer multiple subjects per cartridge. The 3s has expandable memory so you can add movies to it is why I prefer that educational kids tablet.

As far as the older kids are concerned I really like the Kurio 7s because of the Mr Nussbaum material. It’s fun and educational. The Nabi 2 is great as well for education but I like the parental controls for the Kurio’s.

I’m glad they have been helpful and I hope to be doing quite a few how to videos later so let me know if you need any help and thanks for visiting and commenting.

  5. Do both the Innotab 3S and Nabi jr have wifi access when it is available?

    • Yes they both have wifi available. Thanks for the question.

      • Trying to figure out the differance in innotab3 with USB cable and innotab3 wireless wifi certified and witch is the better of the 2 we have wireless in our house.

        • The wireless version should still have a USB cord and this is preferred. WiFi is one of the features that seems to fail on the LeapPad and Innotab.
